To become a Muslim, one needs to make the following declaration:
Ash-hadu allah ilaha illa Allah,
wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulu Allah
I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
But what does that mean? Intellectually, you’re at the door. But what do you have to do to come into the house? Basic tenants: Faith perfected 5:3; only Way accepted by God 3:19, 3:85; no compulsion in accepting Islam 2:256; one religion with different faiths and codes of law 5:48, 22:67-70, 42:13-14; prophets of Islam 2:135-136, 3:84, 4:163-165; commandments (have faith in God and do good) 4:36, 6:151-154, 17:23-39, 18:107-108; five objectives of Sharia; protecting faith 5:54; protecting life 5:32, 6:151; protecting wealth 5:38; protecting honor 5:5, 24:4, protecting one’s ability to think 5:90.
